How can Pakistan reach T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final after England defeat?

Pakistan suffered a significant blow to their hopes of a T20 World Cup semi-final berth after Tuesday’s defeat against England

The Green Shirts posted 164 runs after opting to bat first at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.

However, apart from Sahibzada Farhan, the Pakistani players failed to impress with the bat.

Shaheen Shah Afridi delivered an exceptional bowling spell, but England chased down the total thanks to a brilliant century from captain Harry Brook.

England have booked their place in the semi-finals. Pakistan remain alive in the tournament, but their qualification chances are very slim.

The 2009 champions are currently sitting third in Group 2 with one point after their match against New Zealand was washed out.

How can Pakistan reach the T20 World Cup semi-final?

If New Zealand lose their Super Eight games against Sri Lanka and England, the Green Shirts will only need to defeat Sri Lanka to progress to the semi-finals.

If the Black Caps lose one of their two fixtures, Pakistan will need to beat Sri Lanka and maintain a favourable net run rate (NRR) to guarantee their qualification.

If New Zealand win their remaining two matches, they will join England in the final four regardless of Pakistan’s results.

The Salman Ali Agha-led side will return to action on Saturday against Sri Lanka, hoping to secure a convincing win to boost their NRR.
