Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia says Arsenal counterpart David Raya is the best goalkeeper in the world right now

Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia has admitted that his Arsenal counterpart David Raya is the best in the position in the world right now.

Raya has been in fine form this term and is looking to help Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta clinch the Premier League title in the coming weeks.

Raya has kept 15 clean sheets in 31 league games and is one of the main reasons why they are nine points clear at the top of the league table.

The Spaniard will battle Garcia and Unai Simon for a starting spot at the World Cup this summer. Garcia has praised the 30-year-old.

“I like David, he is having an amazing, incredible season in the Premier League,” Garcia replied when asked who he thinks is the best goalkeeper in the world at the moment.

“He is at a very high level, and I am really enjoying his season.”

Arsenal lost the League Cup final to Manchester City on Sunday, and many people have blamed Arteta for starting Kepa Arrizabalaga ahead of Raya.

The former Chelsea goalie was at fault for the opener, and fans think Raya would have been a better option for such a huge game.

The Spaniard kept the most clean sheets (13) last term and in 2023-24 (16) and is on course to retain the Premier League Golden Glove for the third consecutive campaign.

He is currently on international duty as Spain prepare to take on Serbia and Egypt in friendly games on Friday and next Tuesday, respectively.

Raya is expected to taste action in one of the games and will hope to do enough to convince the coaches he deserves to be the starter at the World Cup in June.
