Five major records broken during India vs England T20 World Cup semi-final

India booked their place in the T20 World Cup final after beating England by seven runs in a high-scoring thriller in Mumbai.

Sanju Samson was the standout performer for the Men in Blue, as he struck a blistering 89-run knock to help his team reach a 253 total.

England made a commendable effort to chase the mighty target, with Jacob Bethell hitting a sensational century.

However, Bethell’s ton ultimately went in vain, as Jasprit Bumrah’s exceptional death bowling delivered a memorable victory for India at the Wankhede Stadium.

Many major records were broken during the semi-final, and we have discussed five of them below.

Highest total in a T20 World Cup knockout

The previous highest ever score in a T20 World Cup knockout was West Indies’ 205 against Australia in 2012. India set a new record by posting 253 on Thursday.

Most runs in a T20 World Cup game

India and England scored a total of 499 runs, the most in a T20 World Cup match, surpassing the 459 scored by England and South Africa in 2016.

Highest individual score in a T20 World Cup knockout

Bethell struck 105 runs against India, which is the new highest individual score in a T20 World Cup knockout.

Most boundaries in a T20 World Cup match

The two teams combined to hit 73 boundaries, the most in a T20 World Cup match and the third-most in any T20I game.

Record final appearances for India

India have qualified for the T20 World Cup final for a record fourth time. England, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have each reached the final three times.
