Manchester United moving to the front of the queue for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali

Manchester United are moving to the front of the queue for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope.

They want a quality replacement for Casemiro in the summer, and the Magpies star fits the bill. Man United captain Bruno Fernandes has urged the club to make an approach for Tonali.

The Red Devils have also been linked with his Newcastle teammate Bruno Guimaraes, but they are not keen on signing him.

Tonali has been linked with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal and Manchester City in recent weeks, but Man United have emerged as the favourites in recent hours.

The 25-year-old has been in fine form this term, but he is likely to seek an exit in the summer as the Magpies are unlikely to secure Champions League football for next season.

The St James Park club are currently 12th in the Premier League table, ahead of the remaining seven fixtures of the season, 12 points off the top four.

They could miss out entirely on European football next term, which could be good news for Man United in their pursuit of the Italy international.

The Red Devils are third in the league table and will play in the Champions League next season if they maintain their current momentum until the end of the campaign.

They will be desperate to challenge for the title and other major trophies next season, and signing Tonali would boost their chances.
