Maguire snubbed Inter Miami & Napoli to extend his deal with Man United

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire recently signed a contract extension to stay at least one more year, with an option for a further 12 months.

Per the Sun, the Man United centre-back snubbed the chance to play for Major League Soccer outfit Inter Miami.

The Red Devils moved to keep the experienced Maguire at Old Trafford after he turned a corner under interim manager Michael Carrick.

Since Ruben Amorim’s departure, Maguire has been a key figure in Man Utd’s resurgence. They are third in the Premier League table with seven games remaining.

Man United decided to reward him with a new deal, but he could have been strutting his stuff for the reigning MLS Cup champions.

Miami assembled an impressive group of players in the twilight of their careers, including Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

Maguire could have become a free agent, which would have piqued interest from Miami and Napoli.

United star deserved a new deal

Maguire’s experience will be crucial with the club poised to lose Casemiro.

The ‘incredible‘ defender may not be in the first team next season, but his leadership and experience can prove pivotal for the new era at Old Trafford.

He is working on his coaching badges, which will open the door for him to stay at the club when his playing career ends.

It is unclear if Maguire’s extension means Man United will not pursue a new defender this summer.

With Maguire, Matthijs De Ligt, Leny Yoro, Lisandro Martinez and Ayden Heaven, United may feel like they have enough bodies at the back.

The Red Devils might opt to spend their money on strengthening in the middle of the park.
