Manchester United handed boost as Matheus Cunha trains ahead of Liverpool clash

Manchester United’s interim manager Michael Carrick has been handed a major boost ahead of this Sunday’s Premier League clash with Liverpool.

Matheus Cunha has returned to training after missing the game against Brentford on Monday night due to a knock.

Carrick told the press on Monday that Cunha had a sore hip flexor after the Chelsea game. While it appeared that he could make the matchday squad, he did not recover in time.

The Red Devils missed his creativity against the Bees, but will have him back against Liverpool in a huge boost.

United will qualify for next season’s Champions League if they defeat Liverpool.

Cunha has bagged eight goals and two assists in 30 league appearances this term and has been a key player since joining the Old Trafford club from Wolverhampton Wanderers last summer.

The 26-year-old has registered four goal contributions in his last six league appearances, and the Red Devils could do with his influence against Liverpool.

The Merseyside club are just three points behind Man United in the table and will be desperate to leave the Theatre of Dreams with all three points.

A tough clash is on the cards, given the rivalry between the two clubs. A win and a top performance will help boost Carrick’s chances of landing the job permanently.

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has reportedly emerged as a contender to become the next Man United permanent boss, and another statement victory on Sunday will help Carrick.

United will be raring to go against Liverpool, and returning to the Champions League will be massive for the club.
