Steven Gerrard has urged Liverpool to sign Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise as a replacement for Mohamed Salah.
Salah has announced he will leave Liverpool this summer. The 33-year-old winger had signed a new two-year contract with Liverpool at the start of the season.
However, a public fallout with manager Arne Slot, combined with his reduced influence in the team, has forced Salah to reconsider his previous decision.
The conversation has already shifted to players who can fill his boots.
Not many players in world football can replicate Salah’s output, but Gerrard has named Olise as an ideal replacement for him.
“When full-backs face wingers, they usually have a weaker foot, and we direct them to one side or the other,” Gerrard said (via A Bola).
“The problem is that Olise can go to both sides – his right foot is as strong as his left. We see some of the assists he makes. If we leave him in one-on-one situations, we’re in trouble.”
The former Liverpool midfielder then admitted that it will be difficult to lure him away from Bayern.
“Would I take him to Liverpool? Without a doubt,” Gerrard added. “But the problem is, why would he leave Bayern?
“A great club, fighting for big trophies, probably the strongest Bayern team we’ve seen in a while.
“He’s about to dominate the World Cup. He seems like a really happy kid – balanced, in my opinion – and I don’t think he’s going anywhere.”
Olise has been in remarkable form for Bayern this season, bagging 16 goals and 29 assists in 41 games across all competitions.
The 24-year-old has been a driving force in Bayern’s quest for total domination, forming an elite attacking partnership with Harry Kane and former Liverpool forward Luis Diaz.
