Tottenham Hotspur in pole position to sign Liverpool star Andy Robertson this summer if they remain in the Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur are in pole position to sign Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson this summer, provided they remain in the Premier League, according to The Athletic.

They held talks over signing Robertson in the winter transfer window. However, Liverpool were not keen on letting him leave.

The Scotland international will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season, and Spurs are the favourites to sign him on a free transfer.

Robertson could become Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi’s first signing in the summer transfer window.

The two-time Premier League winner would bring experience to the Spurs dressing room.

The 32-year-old has played 270 league games for the Reds and could be perfect for Tottenham.

Spurs are facing a relegation battle and could be in the bottom three at the end of today if West Ham United defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers this evening.

The Lilywhites are currently 17th in the Premier League table after 31 games and will be desperate to pick up all three points at Sunderland on Sunday.

They will finish their season with fixtures against Brighton & Hove Albion, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Aston Villa, Leeds United, Chelsea and Everton.

Spurs need to win most of those games to boost their chances of staying up. De Zerbi will fancy his chances of keeping Tottenham in the Premier League at the end of the season.

The Italian will remain with the club even if they get relegated, but Robertson will not be joining them if that happens.
