Arsenal to reward manager Mikel Arteta with huge pay rise after title triumph

Arsenal will offer Mikel Arteta a lucrative new contract that will make him one of the best-paid managers in the world, according to the Guardian.

The Gunners boss has led the club to their first Premier League title since 2004.

Arsenal finished the last three seasons as runners-up but have finally got over the line after leading the way for most of the campaign.

Arteta is now expected to be offered a large salary increase, which could come close to matching Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone’s wage.

The Argentine is the world’s best-paid manager, earning around £26 million a year.

The Arsenal boss earns about £10m a season plus a £5m bonus for reaching the Champions League.

He could now earn more than Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, who makes £20m a year.

Talks over extending Arteta’s deal beyond next summer were put on hold while the Gunners concentrated on winning the title.

Their triumph came last night after Bournemouth held Man City to a 1-1 draw.

They are now looking forward to playing Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final at Budapest on May 30.

Arsenal have never won the elite European competition and will make history with a victory over the Ligue 1 club.

Arteta deserves to be rewarded with an improved deal after turning the club’s fortunes around since his arrival in December 2019.

The Gunners reached the Champions League semi-finals last term but were stopped from advancing to the final by PSG.

Arsenal will now fancy their chances of going one better when they meet the French club, and returning to London with the trophy would be huge for them.

Arteta will become the longest-serving manager in the Premier League when Guardiola leaves at the end of the season.
