Atletico Madrid eyeing Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva to fill Antoine Griezmann void

Atletico Madrid are reportedly eyeing Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva to fill the void left by Antoine Griezmann.

After a trophy-laden spell under Pep Guardiola, Silva is set to leave the Etihad Stadium when his contract expires next month. Griezmann is joining Orlando City this summer.

The Frenchman has been the creative heartbeat of Atletico, seamlessly linking midfield and attack while executing Simeone’s demanding defensive pressing schemes.

Los Colchoneros are prioritising a world-class replacement capable of replicating the Frenchman’s unique hybrid role.

Replacing a player of that calibre demands technical intelligence, tireless work rate and positional fluidity.

Silva ticks every box. The 31-year-old Portuguese international has spent years thriving under Guardiola, showcasing a rare blend of ball retention, vision and relentless off-the-ball movement.

His ability to operate across the final third or drop deeper into midfield makes him an ideal tactical successor to inherit Griezmann’s mantle at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano.

Luring the ‘special‘ Silva from the Etihad Stadium remains a major challenge, but Atletico’s hierarchy – led by sporting director Mateu Alemany – is intent on rebuilding with high-profile signings.

Silva has previously hinted at an openness to playing in a new league before the end of his career, and the prospect of moving to Spain carries significant appeal.

Barcelona are also interested in signing Silva as a free agent, although their financial constraints could prove a stumbling block.

Having already secured a deal for Joao Gomes, Atletico are showing no signs of slowing down in the transfer market as they look to challenge for major honours next season.
