Doku’s last-gasp strike rescues Man City in six-goal Everton thriller

Everton and Manchester City played out a chaotic 3-3 draw that could prove decisive in the Premier League title race, with Jeremy Doku’s stoppage-time equaliser denying the hosts a famous victory.

City dominated early proceedings at Goodison Park, controlling possession and probing for openings, but struggled to translate that superiority into clear chances. Their breakthrough finally arrived just before half-time when Doku curled a superb effort into the top corner to give the visitors a deserved lead.

The match turned dramatically after the interval. Everton emerged with renewed energy and capitalised on a costly defensive error, as Thierno Barry pounced on a loose back pass to level the score.

Momentum swung firmly in the home side’s favour as they continued to press forward. Jake O’Brien powered in a header to make it 2-1 before Barry struck again to cap a remarkable turnaround, putting Everton 3-1 ahead and leaving City reeling.

Pep Guardiola’s side responded with urgency. Erling Haaland reduced the deficit in the 83rd minute with a composed finish, setting up a frantic finale as City pushed for an equaliser.

Just as Everton looked set to secure a memorable win, Doku struck again deep into stoppage time, firing home in the 97th minute to salvage a point and silence the home crowd.

Despite the dramatic comeback, the result represents a significant blow to City’s title ambitions. Guardiola admitted afterwards that the race is no longer in his team’s hands, with Arsenal now firmly in control at the top of the table.

For Everton, the draw was bittersweet. Their spirited second-half performance showcased resilience and attacking quality, but conceding so late denied them a victory that would have boosted their push for European qualification.

In a match defined by defensive lapses, clinical finishing and relentless drama, both sides contributed to one of the season’s most thrilling encounters—one that may ultimately shape the destination of the Premier League title.
