Manchester United are planning to appoint Michael Carrick as their next permanent manager and hand him an initial two-year contract, according to reports.
They brought their former midfielder back in January to replace Ruben Amorim until the end of the season and he has impressed.
United will also include an option to extend his deal by another 12 months. Official talks have yet to start as Man United insist other candidates are not ruled out.
However, Carrick has been involved in recruitment meetings ahead of the summer transfer window.
The players also want him to stay beyond this season and he is expected to get the job.
He has been nominated for the Premier League’s Manager of the Season award despite overseeing just 15 Premier League games since being put in charge of the Red Devils.
Man United have qualified for next season’s Champions League after winning ten of those games.
They play Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion in their final two games of the season and just one more point is needed for them to finish third in the table.
Carrick has done a good job and deserves to lead the team going forward.
He is already preparing for next season from the look of things and will be desperate to hit the ground running in what is set to be his first full season in charge of Man United.
He has to prove himself all over again next season and all eyes will be on him as the fans are already dreaming of seeing their club win the major trophies.
