Newcastle interested in signing Lamine Camara

Newcastle United are interested in signing Monaco’s Lamine Camara, per L’Equipe.

They need a holding midfielder who can control the ebb and flow of the game while providing excellent defensive cover. Camara fits the bill.

Sandro Tonali might leave Newcastle this summer, and Camara is the perfect replacement for him.

He can sit at the base of midfield, allowing Bruno Guimaraes and a more attacking midfielder to shine further forward.

If Newcastle keep hold of Tonali, alongside Guimaraes, Camara can rejuvenate the midfield in a way Joe Willock and Jacob Ramsey haven’t.

He is an expert at winning the ball back and progressing it with intent.

He has experience in winning, having played a crucial role for Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Camara won the CHAN (African Nations Championship) and the U20 Africa Cup of Nations in 2023, earning Player of the Tournament in both competitions.

He signed for FC Metz in Ligue 2 in February of that year, and quickly earned a move to Monaco. He was named CAF Young Player of the Year in January 2024.

Newcastle are not alone in the race to sign him, with Liverpool considering a bid.

He comes from the same Generation Foot academy as Sadio Mane, and they both progressed through Metz.

Newcastle should do everything to sign Camara ahead of the competition. He is exactly what the engine room is crying out for.

Eddie Howe’s side thrives on overpowering opponents, but they have lacked control. He can provide renewed energy and the control the Magpies have been missing.
