Rangers want to sign Zalaegerszegi defender Akpe Victory

Rangers are currently in talks to bring Zalaegerszegi centre-back Akpe Victory to the club.

Manager Danny Rohl is looking to strengthen at the back to launch a better shot at the Scottish Premiership title next term.

The 6ft 5in 19-year-old Nigerian is also on the radar of clubs in Germany, Spain and France, but Rangers are close to making an offer to bring him to Scotland.

He is also wanted by Benfica.

However, Victory could be reunited with fellow Nigerian Emmanuel Fernandez at Ibrox, and fans will hope he makes a similar impact.

The teenage sensation is under contract until 2028, with an option for another year.

Fernandez joined Rangers from Peterborough United last summer and has notched seven goals in 32 games in his debut season.

The 24-year-old has become a Nigerian international since joining Rangers, and Victory could follow in his footsteps.

Rangers were in the title race for the Scottish Premiership in the first phase of the season, but dropped out following four defeats after the league split.

They will look to strengthen their squad, and Victory could be a solid addition.

His aerial presence and defensive positioning are qualities Rangers need in a defender, and the opportunity to play for them could be appealing.
