Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs wanted by Chelsea and Liverpool this summer

Chelsea and Liverpool are interested in signing Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs this summer, according to the Sun.

The 23-year-old has impressed since moving from NEC Nijmegen to the Stadium of Light in a £9 million deal last summer.

Roefs is a key player for manager Regis Le Bris and is now valued at around £50m.

Soon-to-be Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso could look to sign Roefs to challenge Robert Sanchez.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot is also likely to recruit another goalkeeper as Alisson Becker could join Juventus this summer.

Giorgi Mamardashvili has yet to fully convince the Reds after another underwhelming performance against Aston Villa on Friday night.

Roefs has kept ten clean sheets in 33 Premier League appearances this term, making 104 saves.

He has conceded 44 league goals and saved one of the three penalties he has faced.

It is unclear whether the Black Cats will be open to selling one of their best players after the crucial role he played to keep them in the Premier League this term.

Sunderland will look to push for a place in Europe next term by supporting Le Bris in the summer transfer window, and holding on to Roefs could prove crucial.

Selling him for profit and reinvesting in the squad may also be tempting, and they have to make a smart decision in the coming weeks when suitors come calling for the Dutchman.
