Juventus reinitiate contact with Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez over a summer move

Serie A giants Juventus have renewed contact with Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez’s representatives, according to Calciomercato.

The Bianconeri have shifted their focus to the Argentine World Cup winner after accepting defeat in their pursuit of Liverpool’s Alisson Becker.

Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti has made securing an experienced goalkeeper a summer priority.

Martinez is the ideal candidate, thanks to his elite shot-stopping, composure under pressure and leadership qualities.

However, luring the World Cup winner away from Villa Park will require navigating a complex financial framework.

While Villa’s board are open to a sale to help comply with strict financial regulations, the player’s asking price is still being negotiated.

Villa are seeking a transfer fee of around €20 million for the ‘fantastic‘ Martinez after he came close to a move to Manchester United last summer.

Martinez’s high wage demands are a stumbling block. He is reportedly seeking a net salary of around €7 million per year to move to Serie A.

This would make him one of the highest earners in Turin, posing a challenge for a Juventus board looking to reduce the club’s wage bill.

Juventus are keeping their options open while maintaining dialogue with Martinez’s camp. The club are also considering Tottenham Hotspur’s Guglielmo Vicario as a viable alternative.
