Newcastle United considering ambitious move for Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford

Newcastle United are reportedly weighing up a move for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.

Rashford spent last season on a highly successful loan at Barcelona, bagging 14 goals and 11 assists to help them win the La Liga title.

While the England international is keen to make his stay at Camp Nou permanent, the transfer landscape has shifted dramatically after Barcelona spent £70 million to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle.

Although the Spanish giants hold a £26m option to buy Rashford until June 15, they are reportedly trying to negotiate a lower fee or secure another loan.

United are now prepared to sanction a permanent sale to any club willing to take on Rashford’s £325,000-a-week wages in full.

This presents a significant opportunity for Newcastle, who now have a vacant left-wing spot and the financial muscle generated from Gordon’s £70m sale to fund a marquee signing.

However, pulling off the deal will require overcoming significant hurdles. Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with a move for Rashford.

If Barcelona fail to trigger their purchase option by the mid-June deadline, Newcastle could test the waters with an official bid.

They will hope that a starting role can tempt Rashford back to the Premier League.
