Sandro Tonali not a concrete option for Manchester United due to overall transfer outlay

Manchester United’s interest in Sandro Tonali is not expected to lead to a summer move, with Newcastle United’s steep valuation meaning he is no longer a realistic target.

Newcastle are seeking around £100 million to part ways with Tonali, as they are under no immediate pressure to sell him. He is a key part of their long-term plans alongside Bruno Guimaraes.

Having already sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona, the St James’ Park outfit are in a strong financial position.

Meeting Newcastle’s asking price is virtually impossible for United, despite securing a return to the Champions League football for next season.

The Red Devils are taking a cautious approach to the market as they look to right the wrongs of recent years and have already wrapped up a deal for Atalanta’s defensive midfielder Ederson.

While United remain in the hunt for at least one more midfielder, Tonali’s financial demands all but rule him out as an option.

United are now expected to turn their attention to West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes and have started talks with his agents.

The ‘brilliant‘ Tonali still has interest from Arsenal and Manchester City. Arsenal attempted a winter swoop, while City currently consider him a back-up option if they miss out on Elliot Anderson.
