Belgian star Thomas Meunier is set to join Sunderland as a free agent on a two-year deal.
The 34-year-old defender travelled into the north east this morning to undergo a medical ahead of a move, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.
The Belgian was at the World Cup with his country and is moving to the Premier League after leaving Lille.
Sunderland will push for Europe again next season after qualifying for the Europa League, and adding Meunier to their squad is huge.
The veteran full-back brings quality and plenty of experience to the table, and manager Regis Le Bris will be delighted with his arrival.
The Black Cats have yet to sign anyone this summer, and Meunier could become their first addition of the window.
While the former Paris Saint-Germain star is primarily a right-back, he can also play further up the field, and his versatility will be useful to Sunderland.
Meunier was regularly linked with a move to the Premier League in his heyday, and he will still fancy his chances of impressing despite entering the twilight of his career.
The former Borussia Dortmund defender will provide Trai Hume and Nordi Mukiele with quality competition and cover at right-back.
The Black Cats need squad depth as they add European football to their domestic engagements next term.
Fans will hope Meunier is the first of several quality additions this summer.
