Newcastle United are considering Luka Sucic as a replacement for Bruno Guimaraes, according to the Daily Mail.
The Magpies need to rebuild their midfield for new manager Matthias Jaissle, and Sucic is a target alongside Lukas Nmecha and Angelo Stiller.
Sucic caught Newcastle’s attention with his performances for Real Sociedad last season. He bagged three goals and an assist in 22 La Liga appearances.
The 23-year-old is a fantastic ball progressor. He is comfortable on the ball and distributes it very well.
Sucic worked with Jaissle previously and could rekindle that relationship at St James’ Park.
While he is still not at Guimaraes’ level, he could develop into a fine midfielder for Newcastle. He has all the tools required of a top-level conductor.
Born in Austria, he represents the Croatian national team, where he plays alongside his cousin, Inter Milan’s Petar Sucic, another equally terrific midfielder.
He models his game around Luka Modric.
Newcastle need a ready-made option
Sucic looks like exactly the sort of intelligent, technically gifted midfielder Newcastle should be targeting for the long term.
He has the potential to grow into a cornerstone of Jaissle’s team, especially given their previous relationship and his impressive ceiling.
However, expecting him to replace Guimaraes immediately would place enormous pressure on a player still adapting to the demands of English football.
If the Brazilian departs, Newcastle should pair Sucic with a more Premier League-proven midfielder capable of delivering from day one.
That combination would provide the perfect balance of immediate quality and future potential, allowing Sucic to settle without carrying the burden of filling one of the biggest voids in the division.
