Aston Villa are set to reward Amadou Onana with a new contract running until June 2031, according to Foot Mercato.
The 25-year-old Belgium international joined Villa from Everton for £50 million in 2024 and has quickly established himself as a key figure.
Onana originally signed a five-year deal until 2029, but his impressive performances have prompted Villa to secure his long-term future.
The proposed extension comes at a significant moment in Onana’s career following a major setback on the international stage.
During Belgium’s 4-1 win over the United States in the 2026 World Cup round of 16, Onana was forced off in the 21st minute with a serious knee injury.
Subsequent scans have since confirmed a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
The injury ruled him out of Belgium’s quarter-final against Spain and is expected to keep him sidelined for around eight months.
Despite the lengthy rehabilitation ahead, Villa’s commitment to an upgraded deal underlines their faith in his recovery.
Onana’s physical presence, aerial strength, press resistance and progressive carrying made him one of the Premier League’s most complete midfielders.
By extending Onana’s contract now, Villa are giving him security and reassurance as he continues his recovery.
The new terms are expected to include an improved salary reflecting Onana’s status as a key squad member. With talks progressing smoothly, a formal announcement is expected soon.
