Aston Villa predicted XI vs Nottingham Forest: Villains look to carry Champions League form into the Premier League

Aston Villa host Nottingham Forest on Saturday still searching for their first Premier League win this term.

Villa have taken just one point from their opening three league games and are yet to score domestically.

However, the Villains recorded a hard-fought 3-2 Champions League victory over Club Brugge in midweek.

Match preview

Villa’s poor Premier League start has made Saturday’s meeting with Forest especially important.

The Villans are already six points behind in the top four race.

The 3-2 victory over Brugge was a major boost, with Villa showing much more attacking threat and resilience than they had in their opening league fixtures.

Villa have a favourable recent record in this fixture, winning each of their last six Premier League home games against Forest.

They also beat the Tricky Trees 4-0 in last season’s Europa League semi-final.

However, Palace manager Oliver Glasner is a serious problem for Villa counterpart Unai Emery.

The Austrian is unbeaten in all seven meetings with the Villa boss.

His Palace sides repeatedly caused Villa problems with their wing-back system and counter-attacking approach.

Forest have yet to win under Glasner this season, but they have shown signs of improvement.

They drew 2-2 with Liverpool at Anfield before holding Tottenham Hotspur to a goalless draw.

Match stats

Villa have won six consecutive Premier League home matches against Forest and have lost only three of their last 18 league meetings with the Tricky Trees.

Forest have recorded six draws and nine losses in that run.

Aston Villa team news

Leon Goretzka, Amadou Onana and Brian Madjo are unavailable, while Joao Gomes will serve the final game of his suspension.

Matty Cash is doubtful after missing the Champions League victory with muscle fatigue.

Emery will assess him after Friday’s training session, meaning Aaron Wan-Bissaka could retain his place at right-back.

Johan Manzambi is also being considered for his Villa debut after returning to training, but Emery may decide against rushing him into the starting XI.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis is available after being left out of the Champions League squad, although Victor Lindelof could continue alongside Pau Torres.

Ibrahim Mbaye is another option, but Emery may stick with the ‘fantastic‘ George Hemmings and John McGinn in the wide positions.

Nicolas Jackson leads the attack after scoring against Brugge.

Aston Villa predicted starting XI (4-2-3-1)

Zion Suzuki; Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Pau Torres, Ian Maatsen; Boubacar Kamara, Ross Barkley; John McGinn, Emi Buendia, George Hemmings; Nicolas Jackson.
