Carlos Baleba could feature when a Manchester United academy side face Switzerland’s Lausanne-Sport in a friendly later this week, according to The Athletic.
The Cameroon international has yet to play for the Red Devils since joining them from Brighton & Hove Albion in a £70 million deal this summer.
Baleba has been following an individual programme designed to get him up to full fitness during the international break.
The 22-year-old’s ankle injury has healed quicker than expected. He was named in the matchday squad against Fulham before the international break.
Baleba’s work ethic has impressed the Red Devils’ staff, and manager Michael Carrick will be desperate to have him in the team.
He could get a starting berth when Man United take on Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on October 10 in their first game after the international break.
It could be a game-changer for the club given their recent struggles. They have won just one Premier League game this term (D2, L2).
The Red Devils were also dumped out of the League Cup following a 3-2 defeat to Brighton in the third round.
They need an upswing in fortunes on the pitch, and having a proven defensive midfielder available could solve their problems.
The Red Devils wanted Baleba last summer and were happy to finally get a deal over the line.
Baleba could be ready to start against Spurs as Man United eye a much-needed victory following an underwhelming start to the season.
