Rangers completed back-to-back victories over Celtic with a 1-0 win at Parkhead on Sunday.
The Gers cut the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership to just two points.
Rangers star Ryan Naderi scored in the first half to seal the win.
The scoreline barely reflected Rangers’ dominance as Celtic struggled to cope with their intensity, physicality and organisation.
Here are five talking points from another memorable Glasgow derby clash.
Makhanya looks ready for bigger things
Rangers defender Olwethu Makhanya was the standout performer. His development should already have clubs outside Scotland taking notice.
The 22-year-old was composed throughout, defending aggressively when required while also showing an impressive ability to carry the ball out from the back.
The South African even appeared to score a spectacular second goal when he produced a brilliant volley into the top corner. It was ruled out as the ball struck his hand.
Former Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday was particularly impressed, describing Makhanya as an ‘absolute Rolls-Royce of a defender‘.
Telegraph reporter Craig Hope believes the Rangers centre-back ‘looks like one who could get Premier League attention soon enough‘.
O’Neill’s future is suddenly a major talking point
Martin O’Neill’s second spell in charge of Celtic has suddenly entered uncharted territory.
The 74-year-old has now overseen three consecutive defeats, including two against Rangers within eight days, while Celtic also lost to Ferencvaros in the Europa League.
O’Neill did not shy away from questions about his position afterwards, admitting that he would reflect on whether he remains the right person to turn things around.
The Celtic manager also said he would speak with the board and take some time during the international break to consider his future.
That makes the next three weeks particularly important for O’Neill as Celtic have time to regroup before returning against Motherwell on October 11.
Rangers have transformed defensively
The biggest difference between Rangers now and the team that struggled earlier this season is their defensive organisation.
McInnes’ side have conceded just once in their last six matches after keeping only one clean sheet in their opening seven games.
Makhanya and Emmanuel Fernandez have developed a strong partnership at centre-back, while Dujon Sterling has looked much more comfortable at right-back.
Fernandez made 11 clearances at Celtic Park, while Makhanya’s composure helped Rangers deal with almost everything thrown at them.
Rangers limited Celtic to just one shot on target at home.
Celtic were fortunate to lose by only one goal
The 1-0 scoreline flattered Celtic.
Rangers were comfortably the better team for long periods, especially after the interval, when Celtic struggled to establish any control.
Rangers were more aggressive, won their individual battles and repeatedly forced Celtic backwards.
Naderi’s goal ultimately separated the sides, but the visitors created enough pressure to suggest the margin could have been much wider.
Can Rangers keep up this momentum?
Rangers have won six matches in a row and beaten Celtic twice in the space of a week after a deeply concerning start to the campaign.
The turnaround has been remarkable. The side now looks organised, aggressive and much more confident in possession.
However, the challenge is maintaining those standards over an entire season.
Rangers have no European football to distract them and a young, hungry squad, meaning there is plenty of room for development.
McInnes knows the derby victories can only be the beginning.
Their next task is to prove this isn’t just a brilliant few weeks, but the foundation of a sustained challenge for the Scottish Premiership title.
