Champions League 2026/27: Matchday 2 preview
Barcelona’s 5-1 home victory over Feyenoord triggered a shake-up in the outright market, with online bookmakers installing them as the new favourites to lift the trophy.
Their Matchday 1 performance was undoubtedly impressive, but odds of 4/1 to win the title for the first time since 2014/15 make limited appeal as a betting proposition.
Barca’s second outing at Galatasaray will provide a more useful pointer towards their chances of winning the Champions League this season.
Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain kicked off their campaign with an eye-catching 6-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava at the Parc des Princes.
Their second fixture at Manchester City will be more difficult. City triumphed 2-0 at Porto in their first game and are a tough nut to crack at the Etihad Stadium.
Both teams are expected to reach the latter stages of the competition this season and a close encounter is on the cards in Manchester.
Arsenal, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are the only other teams currently listed at single-figure odds in the outright market.
The Gunners recorded a 1-0 victory at Napoli in their opening game and should follow up with another win at home to Lille.
Bayern Munich triumphed 5-0 at home to Bodo/Glimt and are strongly fancied to make it two wins out of two when they visit Viking.
Arsenal and Bayern will both expect to be in contention to win the Champions League this season, but may ultimately come up short.
Madrid’s 2-1 home victory over Serie A champions Inter Milan was one of the most impressive results in the opening round of matches.
The 15-time European champions visit Roma on Matchday 2. If they avoid defeat in Italy, odds of 6/1 to lift the trophy would disappear.
