Folarin Balogun’s proposed transfer from AS Monaco to Everton is in serious jeopardy after he failed his medical, according to RMC Sport reporter Fabrice Hawkins.
The two clubs had agreed a deal worth €45 million plus €5m in add-ons for the 25-year-old United States international.
Personal terms on a four-year contract were also agreed, paving the way for Balogun to make the move to Merseyside. However, complications arose during his medical.
While representatives from AS Monaco and Balogun’s camp insist he is fully fit and ready to play, Everton’s caution has brought negotiations to a halt.
With the transfer window closing soon, the impasse threatens to end what was set to be one of Everton’s marquee summer additions.
David Moyes had identified Balogun as a priority to lead the Toffees’ attack, especially after Beto’s departure to Fiorentina. Missing out on Balogun at this late stage leaves Everton short of striker options.
The ripple effects extend to Monaco, who needed the sale to alleviate their financial concerns.
The collapse of the €50m deal will scupper their plans. Unless Everton decide to renegotiate or take a calculated risk before the deadline, Balogun is set to remain at Monaco.
Everton were previously linked with a move for Richarlison, but are unlikely to revisit that deal.
Thierno Barry could now become Everton’s undisputed starting striker for 2026/27, giving him a major opportunity to prove his worth.
He has already bagged four goals and an assist in three matches across all competitions this term and will look to add to his tally against Manchester United on Sunday.
