The Netherlands have confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Paul van Hecke is returning to London after sustaining an injury against Serbia.
Tottenham return to action at Manchester United on October 10. Van Hecke may be unavailable for the trip to Old Trafford.
Van Hecke started each of Xavi Hernandez’s first two games as Netherlands manager, but is heading back to London for treatment.
The Tottenham defender took part in training this morning. However, he withdrew very early from the session and has been released.
He could not shake off the foot injury he sustained in the 2-1 victory over Serbia in Belgrade on Sunday.
The Netherlands face Greece on Thursday in their third group game of the UEFA Nations League.
Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi is sweating over Van Hecke’s fitness and will hope he returns to training sooner rather than later.
The summer signing has started each of Spurs’ first five games of the new Premier League campaign.
The Lilywhites are bottom of the league table following three defeats and two draws, and a major injury is the last thing they need right now.
Tottenham have Tosin Adarabioyo available, and he will be ready to force his way into the starting XI if Van Hecke is unavailable.
