‘Lively’ Toure was one of the few bright spots as Newcastle lost to Leeds, Jaissle must start him this weekend

Newcastle United suffered a devastating 4-1 loss to Leeds United yesterday, leaving them in 12th place on the Premier League table.

They have taken only five points from their first four league games, and the manner of this defeat will worry manager Matthias Jaissle.

However, there are some silver linings for the new Newcastle boss to take from the defeat.

His players never stopped fighting to get back into the game, while Bazoumana Toure looked superb from the bench.

Signed this summer for around £40 million, the Ivorian international has had to bide his time.

Jaissle called upon him as Newcastle needed inspiration, and he delivered in a stellar 33-minute cameo.

Toure won four out of eight duels, recorded three progressive carries and scored a well-taken consolation goal. He was very ‘lively‘.

The 20-year-old recorded two successful dribbles from three attempts. One of his three attempted crosses connected, and he gave the opposition defence plenty to worry about.

Toure’s performance should give Jaissle plenty to think about ahead of Newcastle’s next Premier League fixture against Hull City at St James’ Park next weekend.

He has shown enough in this appearance to suggest he deserves a starting opportunity, particularly with Anthony Elanga facing a spell on the sidelines.

His direct running, ability to beat defenders and willingness to take risks gave Newcastle a much-needed spark.

This was a very promising showing from a player who has been patiently waiting for his chance.

Toure now needs to be given a bigger role, and this weekend’s game looks like the perfect opportunity for Jaissle to unleash him from the start.

If he can build on this performance, he could quickly become an important player for Newcastle this season.
