Manchester United suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford yesterday.
The Red Devils will feel hard done by as Enzo Fernandez clearly interfered from an offside position before Erling Braut Haaland scored the winner.
Man United had their fair share of chances as Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo struck the post while a Bryan Mbeumo header bounced just wide.
United will still be disappointed by the result as they had the numerical advantage for almost three-quarters of the game after Phil Foden picked up a red card.
Unfortunately, Man Utd could not make City pay. A few players failed to deliver the goods when they needed to stand up and be counted.
Rashford, captain Bruno Fernandes, Mbeumo, and substitute Benjamin Sesko had their moments, but Matheus Cunha in particular failed to influence the game.
The Brazilian international (28 caps) did not hold up the ball well or create dangerous situations for his teammates.
One publication wrote that Cunha ‘didn’t offer enough’ as a false nine before giving him a 5/10 rating.
None of his three shots hit the target. He lost possession 13 times and none of Cunha’s three attempted crosses reached their intended target.
Even when the 27-year-old was moved to the left flank after an uninspiring showing at centre-forward, he looked underwhelming.
Benjamin Sesko came on and gave Man United more dynamism up top, but they still looked short on the left side due to Cunha.
He hasn’t started the season well, and Carrick might be wise to drop him for Sesko now, who’s been miles better despite not being fully fit.
Man Utd take on Brighton & Hove Albion next in the League Cup before travelling to face Fulham in the league.
Based on the way he played at Old Trafford yesterday, Cunha deserves to be dropped.
