Nottingham Forest may look to revisit a deal for Lucas Bergvall in January

Nottingham Forest could pursue a move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall when the winter transfer window opens in January, according to The Telegraph.

The ‘unstoppable‘ 20-year-old was identified as a key target for Forest during the summer, with the club seeking midfield reinforcements to fill the void left by Elliot Anderson.

Forest tested Tottenham’s resolve with concrete proposals, while Chelsea also made deadline enquiries to assess his availability.

Bergvall initially voiced concerns about his first-team prospects after his reduced role at the end of last season.

With Spurs spending over £185 million on marquee midfielders Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, the highly rated Swede requested clarification on his role before ultimately being persuaded to stay.

Despite positive discussions with manager Roberto De Zerbi and sporting director Johan Lange, Bergvall’s long-term future is still uncertain.

With Tonali, Fernandes, Conor Gallagher and Rodrigo Bentancur all competing for starting spots in De Zerbi’s midfield, guaranteed game time for Bergvall could be hard to come by.

If Bergvall is limited to cup starts or late substitute appearances, Forest may look to pounce if the opportunity arises to tempt the player away.

Known for his press-resistant ball-carrying, passing and energetic work rate, the former Djurgarden prodigy offers an ideal profile to add tempo and creativity to Forest’s midfield.

While De Zerbi values Bergvall’s potential and technical quality, Spurs are aware that a substantial offer, potentially over £50 million, could be too good to refuse.

Forest are positioning themselves to move quickly if Bergvall seeks a fresh start mid-season.
