Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring South Korean defender Kim Min-jae.
Spurs have previously been linked with the 29-year-old and are still keeping tabs on him, according to media outlets in Germany.
Tottenham signed Marcos Senesi, Tosin Adarabioyo and Jan Paul Van Hecke this summer, but it hasn’t improved their defence.
They have conceded eight goals in five games, managing only one clean sheet in that run.
Tottenham need defensive solidity and could turn to Min-jae to provide it after his four-year tenure with Bayern Munich, following an excellent spell in Italy with Napoli.
He established himself as one of the better defenders in Serie A, but his all-action style did not translate to the Bundesliga, and Jonathan Tah took his place.
He is now behind Dayot Upamecano and Tah in the pecking order and may decide to leave to become a more prominent option.
Tottenham will reportedly be looking to take him, but they aren’t alone in the race as AC Milan and Aston Villa are also interested.
Tottenham should avoid signing Kim
Tottenham should resist the temptation to bring another centre-back into the squad and focus on getting more from the players already at their disposal.
Spurs have invested heavily in their defensive options, and adding Kim would only create another expensive solution without addressing the underlying problems.
The priority should be improving the organisation, consistency and understanding of the existing backline rather than continually changing personnel.
Min-jae is undoubtedly an experienced defender, but he produced his best football in Italy.
His struggles to establish himself as a regular in Germany suggest a move back to Italy could make more sense for his career.
With Milan also interested, Spurs should let him pursue that route and focus on making their current defensive group work.
