Chelsea have enquired about Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah, according to Bild.
They have conceded the most goals in the Premier League (12) and are eager to address the issue.
The Chelsea target bagged four goals and helped keep five clean sheets in 28 league appearances last season.
Chelsea have failed to keep a league clean sheet in their first five league games. Their defence is threatening to undo the brilliance of the attacking cast.
Summer signing Maxence Lacroix has not made much difference at the back. Manager Xabi Alonso is struggling to find the right defensive combination in these early weeks.
Qaunsah’s former club Liverpool, where he won the league, have a €70 million buyback clause they can exercise until June 2027.
Chelsea do not need Quansah
Quansah ideally fits in as the right-side centre-half in a back three. However, the Blues have enough cover there.
They have Josh Acheampong, who has the tools to develop into a world-class centre-half, while Wesley Fofana also plays in that position.
Chelsea also have Mamadou Sarr and Aaron Anselmino waiting in the wings to take the slot. Quansah isn’t much of an upgrade.
They need a difference-maker to bring calm and order to the rearguard. Quansah is still learning the ropes and isn’t the defensive titan they are crying out for.
