Liverpool star Jeremy Jacquet delivers another dominant display on international duty

Liverpool defender Jeremy Jacquet has been one of the club’s bright spots this season.

The Reds paid £60 million to sign the 21-year-old from Rennes and loaned him back to the Ligue 1 club to keep developing.

However, he picked up an injury that he carried to Anfield when he officially joined the Merseyside outfit.

He has been absolutely brilliant since returning, starring alongside Virgil Van Dijk centrally and Ronald Araujo at right-back.

The Frenchman recently received his first call-up to the national team under new manager Zinedine Zidane.

After impressing in his debut beside Maxence Lacroix versus Belgium, he delivered another imperious performance at the back as they drew 1-1 with Italy.

Jacquet won four out of seven duels, made one key pass, completed all three long balls and 79 out of 80 passes.

The Liverpool centre-back only lost possession twice despite having 90 touches. He showed he is an ‘outstanding footballer’.

He looks set to be a mainstay for the France national team. He will likely start their last game of the extended international break.

Dayot Upamecano picked up a red card in the dying embers of the clash versus Italy, meaning Zidane might be forced to roll with Lacroix and Jacquet again.

William Saliba and Ibrahima Konate will struggle to break back into the team after these early showings.

Jacquet brings technical know-how, dominance in the air and on the ground, and leadership traits that suggest a bright future for Les Bleus.

Liverpool fans will be excited by his potential. The Reds needed another convincing presence in the rearguard when Konate left, and it seems they have found their man.

He can eventually replace Liverpool captain Van Dijk.
